Cheyne-Stoke Respiration

Periodic respiration/cyclic respiration: hyperventilation and hypocapnea followed by recurrence of apnea
  • common in advanced heart failure
  • associated with low cardiac output
  • decreased sensitivity of respiratory center to arterial CO2
